Democrat Kevin Abel raises over $200,000 in first fundraising period in campaign for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Kevin Abel announced Wednesday his campaign had raised $203,389 since he declared as a candidate for Georgia’s 6th congressional district in late October.
“I’m encouraged and humbled by the enthusiastic and generous responses we’ve been getting from friends, business associates and civic leaders throughout the 6th Congressional District,” said Abel, a 25-year resident of the district who, along with his wife Cindy Abel, founded and built Abel Solutions, Inc., an Alpharetta-based information technology firm. “It’s been very gratifying.”
Abel put $50,000 of his own funds into the campaign and raised the remaining $153,389 over a six-week fundraising effort. His official quarterly fundraising report will be filed with the U.S. Federal Election Commission on or before the January 31, 2018 deadline.
Abel announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 6th Congressional District on October 26, 2017. The seat is currently held by Republican Karen Handel.
“My candidacy represents an effort to rekindle the spirit of public faith in government,” said Abel. “We deserve better in our elected officials, but it begins and ends with us. We need to vote for the candidate we want in government, not for the least distasteful person our party puts on the ballot. I want this election to be about putting America back on course; about ensuring that our children and grandchildren and future new Americans can aspire, as I have, to realize the American Dream.”
